Meet D’Banj’s new manager, Tonya Merritt

For a while now, it’s been practically impossible to reach out to Koko master, D’Banj. This is because the multiple award winning pop star has not made details of his management available to people and the fact that the exit of his last manager, Tony Nwakalor was done on a low key. NET investigations have however revealed that D’banj has really parted ways with Tony Nwakalor and his new manager is an American-based woman who goes by the name, Tonya Merritt while Davido’s former manager, Asa Asika currently represents D’Banj here in Nigeria. Confirming Tonya Merritt as his new manager, D’Banj shared a picture of himself, Tonya Merritt and renowned photographer, Reza with the caption: ‘Reza the Great National Geographic Fellow and my manager, Tonya Merritt, successful day guys.’ In one of D’Banj’s tweets dated August 15, 2014, D’Banj had made a subtle introduction of Tonya when he shared a picture of her with the caption: ‘EJA NLA and the best and rarest Agent in the World. Mamalet of Life Tonya Merritt the one who gets me…lol! God bless you!.’ In one of Tonya’s tweets dated May 19, 2013, she also shared a picture of D’Banj cuddling her with the caption, ‘Best client and friend in the whole wide world. D’banj Rocked Durban tonight with Snoop Lion.’ D’Banj’s past managers It is known knowledge that D’Banj began his career with Mavin records boss, Don Jazzy in the UK as the duo were nurtured by Kwam 1’s former manager, Ayo Shonaiya who owns and runs the RMG Company in the UK. Ayo Shonaiya was very instrumental to the career of D’Banj especially in the very beginning, with Ayo’s influence and power helping them break into the Nigerian market before they met Sunday Are who became their first manager. When the Mo’Hits’ brouhaha happened and D’banj parted ways with Sunday Are, he got Abisagboola Oluseun John a.k.a Bankulli as his manager. Bankulli reportedly handled D’Banj’s career pretty well and together, they conquered grounds internationally and recorded huge successes before an issue involving Kanye West tore them apart in early 2013. That prompted D’Banj to hire Tony Nwakalor, who at that time was managing rapper, Olamide; music producer, Samklef and Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh  as his manager. Tony is currently the CEO of Sound Core media and entertainment consultants. Who is Tonya Merritt Based in Atlanta Georgia, Tonya Merritt is an international business consultant, publicist and booking agent. Her relationship with D’Banj dates back to several years ago and her influence in D’Banj’s career has been huge even when he doesn’t seem to be doing much in the country. She has been the one pulling the strings and getting D’Banj a number of international deals, shows, collabos and endorsements. She was instrumental in his collaborations with Snoop Lion, she pulled the strings that got Giuseppe Zannoti to present D’banj with a custom made sneakers and was also responsible for the D’Banj-Kenya Monroe aside many others. In the beginning, Tonya’s job was limited to managing D’banj’s international bookings and deals, but now she has assumed full custody of his entire management. She launched her company, Tonya Merritt Group in Nigeria back in 2006 and in her career as an international agent, she has worked with super stars like Trey Songz, Amber Rose, Snoop Lion and many more.... 

Mr Aye Dee encourages Linda Ikeji after causing her blog to be shut down

The media personality responsible for the shut down of Linda Ikeji’s blog after reporting her to google over plagiarism and copyright infringements, Mr. Aye Dee has come out to console the female blogger on Twitter. Meanwhile, even with Linda’s blog having been yanked off by Google on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, Mr. Aye Dee, who claims to be the Editor-in-Chief of United States-based media platform, ‘15Past8 media group’ went on his Twitter page today, October 9, 2014, to post several tweet consoling the former model. In the tweets, Aye Dee went as far rendering prayers for Ms Ikeji to come back bigger and stronger.

The list features Kenya-born award-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o, who earned a master’s degree in acting from the Yale School of Drama in 2012 along with former American presidents including Bill Clinton, George Bush and former US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton among other influential personalities....

What Google said about deleting LINDA IKEJI'S BLOG

The furore over what began as a bitter Twitter exchange between a Nigerian whose identity is known simply as Mr Aye Dee and celebrated blogger, Linda Ikeji, reached its climax on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 when Google finally deleted the popular www.linda ikeji.blogspot.com. The shut down of Nigeria’s leading blog followed complaints filed to Google by Mr Aye Dee, editor-in-chief of US-based 15Past8 media group according to his bio, against Linda Ikeji over copyright infringements. And having tweeted: ‘Google just notified us that they are removing our copyrighted content from Linda Ikeji’s website. All the stories and images Linda Ikeji took from me without permission in the last few days have been removed from her site by Google. Someone has to say something. It costs money to get good work done. I spend time getting information from my sources, as well as analysing and verifying the information. All that costs money. I don’t mind donating my time for Nigeria’s sake, but for someone to take my labour and use it for personal profit, no way!’ days ago, the blog was finally shut down yesterday. Responding to enquiries made by NET, Taiwo Kolade-Ogunlade, the search engine’s Communications and Public Affairs manager in Anglo-Phone West Africa, said issues of copyright infringements are seriously considered and swiftly dealt with by Google. In a direct link he sent as part of his reply, Google makes it clear that ‘Blogger respects the rights of copyright holders and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and other applicable copyright laws. When we receive proper notice as required by the DMCA, we will work to promptly remove content that has been identified as copyright infringement. Repeat infringers’ blogs are removed, and in appropriate instances Blogger accounts will be terminated.’ Going further, the statement points to Blogger’s copyright policy and Copyright Tips: ‘In general, any original work of authorship may be protected by copyright. Copyrighted materials may be subject to claims of copyright infringement. The most common reason we take down content from blogs for copyright infringement is that they have republished unauthorized copies of copyrighted content, and the owners of the copyrighted content have alerted us that their content is being used without their permission. Once we become aware of an unauthorized use, we will remove the content promptly.’ The company lists literary works including articles and passages of text, images and photographs, music files and MP3s, movies, movie trailers and videos among copyright materials, adding : ‘Anytime Blogger is properly notified that a blog or any part of a blog on our site infringes the copyrights of a third party, we will take it down from the site as required by law. If you believe that a blog infringes your copyright, please send us a copyright notice and we’ll take it down. If you believe we’ve removed content from your blog in error and that you are the copyright owner or have permission, you can file a counter notice and let us know. Accounts determined to be repeated infringers may be subject to termination.’ Finally the statement says: ‘Our current repeat infringer policy counts strikes by 24-hour periods. For example, if 5 blog posts were removed under the DMCA today, those removals would count as 1 strike. If 3 more posts were removed on the following day, those would count as 1 additional strike, totalling 2 strikes against that blogger’s account. Multiple strikes will be evaluated and may result in further remedial action, including deletion of the blog and/or terminating the account.’ This makes it clear what happened in the case of the deletion of Linda Ikeji’s blog which, however, seemingly made a brief return about an hour after it was first deleted yesterday before going down again.... 

Wizkid claims to write some of Rihanna's songs.....

In a recent interview on the Capital Xtra show with DJ Abrantee in London while promoting his new album ‘Ayo,’ Nigeria’s award winning pop sensation, Wizkid has confirmed he was with American super star, Rihanna in the studio while he was in Los Angeles. Not just that, Wizkid said he wrote some songs for her album project. In his words, Wizkid said: ‘Yea, I went to the studio to write something for her, she was in the studio as well, big shout out to Rihanna, so we made something together hopefully it gets picked. We’ll still do more stuffs together, you know she’s a cool person, I’m going back to Los Angeles so definitely I’m going to get back in the studio with her again.’...

Wang Zhengyang became one of the trending topics recently after attending China Internet Security Conference in Beijing as the country’s youngest hacker. The 13-year-old boy who hacked into school computer system to get answers for his homework, is currently working with Tsinghua University in Beijing, and has developed a public profile in China.‎ Speaking at the conference, the junior student said: ‘You have to attack the websites first to find its weaknesses.’ ‘It is interesting to look for website security risks and I am overwhelmed with joy when I find one. But I will not use my talent for something illegal.’... 

Chris Brown linked with Los Angeles stabbing incident

Just when you think Chris Brown has learnt how to stay out of trouble, something else happens. The music star has been linked with a stabbing incident in the latest of demeanours that have something to do with him or his entourage. The incident took place at Supper club in Hollywood shortly after Chris Brown finished his set at a YMCMB Drake and Lil Wayne after-party on Monday, September 22, 2014. The victim, whose name has not been released, was hospitalised but is expected to recover. Law enforcement sources said that no arrest was made because no one would give any information, but believe trouble follows the 25-year-old star and his friends. One insider said: ‘When Brown and his people show, we know what’s going to happen. It’s a headache for us.’ The Los Angeles Police Department privately met with nightclub owners and urged them to blacklist Chris, who has not been accused of instigating the violence, and his crew, but they reportedly plan to continue to welcome the ‘Turn Up The Music’ singer and his entourage with open arms, as they make a lot of money from his performances. A source previously claimed Chris, who spent 108 days behind bars for violating his probation when he allegedly made threats about using guns while seeking anger-management treatment in rehab earlier this year, and Drake’s club appearances and performances were under observation by a group of officers from the New York Police Department – known as the ‘Hip-Hop’ squad – in the wake a shooting at Chris’ party at the 1Oak nightclub in Los Angeles last month, in which three people, including music producer Suge Knight, were injured.... 

Davido and Wizkid to battle for MOBO ‘Best African Act’ award

The nominees list for the 2014 edition of the MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) awards has just been released, and it puts two of Nigeria’s hottest acts, Davido and Wizkid in the same category. The two, who have become rivals all of a sudden due to a raging beef, will battle for the ‘Best African Act’ category alongside Nigerian acts – Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Dr Sid while others nominated include Fuse ODG, Dj Clock, Afrikan Boy, Mafikizolo and Mista Silva. Since their renewed beef escalated two months ago, this is the first time the two stars would be placed in the same corner to battle for an award in the same category this year. Already, Davido has won all the available awards for the Best African act in 2014 but the MOBO nomination would represent a level-playing ground for both stars to justify who is hotter as the year begins to wind down. The MOBO awards would hold at the SSE Arena, Wembley London on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.... 

Patience Jonathan tried to get Alicia Keys to perform in Nigeria

The first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan has made headlines for different reasons in the past especially on account of the meeting she convened with supposed relatives of the kidnapped Chibok girls. However, the latest incident of mistaken identity allegedly commiited by Mrs Jonathan pitches the President’s wife against no less a personality than America’s award-winning music star, Alicia Keys A tweet by Alicia Quarles, the University of Southern California graduate and TV personality who currently works with E!, indicates the first lady has made a request to the lady to  come and perform for her in Nigeria, obviously mistaking her for Alicia Keys. Although Quarles did not provide further details on whether the approach was personally made by Dame Patience Jonathan or somebody from her camp, it is believed the request must have been made in the excitement of being introduced to Alicia Quarles whose name doesn’t come out so different from Alicia Keys’ name when properly pronounced.    ‘The First Lady of Nigeria just invited me to sing in her country. I had to break it to her that I’m Alicia Quarles, not @aliciakeys comedy,’ she wrote. It is however, not confirmed if the First Lady actually invited her to sing in the country but it looks like Alicia Quarles deleted the tweet soon after. Veteran American rapper and record producer, Dr. Dre has been named the highest earning hip hop artiste for the year with $620m earned in a single year, according to Forbes. The 49-year-old who is placed ahead of  nineteen fellow rappers including P.Diddy, Jay Z, Drake and others, had his earnings come through the $3 billion sale to Apple of the Beats high-end headphone company he founded with music executive, Jimmy Iovine along with other financial ventures, including cognac and vodka brands. Reports say Forbes reported Dre’s estimated annual earnings for the 12 months between June 2013 and June 2014 are the highest of any musician in any genre it has ever evaluated. Big Brother reveals first Nigerian housemate.

The first Nigerian contestant in the 9th edition of Big Brother Africa ‘Hotshots’ has just been unveiled. The fair skinned model, actress and presenter is named Lilian and would prefer she is called Sexy Lily.  The young woman said she entered Big Brother Hotshots for ‘the platform it provides and the publicity that comes with it, and the money.’ She’s not willing to sell herself short to win the grand prize. If she does win, she’ll invest in her talk show, which is about ‘helping upcoming talents’ and buy herself a house. Sexy Lily prefers chilling with boys and says fellow housemates would like her because she’s very friendly and knows how to make people happy although she also says she can be very annoying too. Her favourite meals are rice and plantain and she likes watching Baggage on TV as well as listening to 2Face Idibia. In terms of books, she is short on that aspect as she doesn’t have a favourite book but likes movies like Think Like A Man, Blended, Friends With Benefits, Bridesmaids and Twelve Years A Slave. Her favourite actor is Angelina Jolie, because ‘she’s creative and can switch between roles’. Idris Elba is first ever recipient of new MOBO Inspiration Award

British actor, Idris Elba has become the first ever recipient of the accolade, which has been created by Kanya King, the founder of the awards. According to Kanya, Idris was selected to be the inaugural winner due to his determination to ‘help and inspire the next generation of talent’ in the UK and because he is an ‘individual who has achieved formidable success in his respective field, against all odds and as such acts as an inspirational figurehead.’  The ‘Prometheus’ star was presented with the prize at the MOBO nominations announcement event, held at Ronnie Scott‘s Jazz Club in London, and although he was genuinely humbled to win it, Idris was relieved it wasn’t a differently titled award. Upon being handed his statuette by Kanya, Elba, who acted as Mandela in a movie last year, said: ‘I thought you were going to say Lifetime Achievement Award or then – I’m just too young. I want to say thank you so much this is an amazing honour. I never thought I’d ever hold one of these. I think the spirit of MOBO is about growing, you know, and if I was just a musician then I wouldn’t get one of these but if I am someone that believes in life expanding your horizons, just like MOBO is doing, and trying to inspire others to do the same then this is a very special award for me and I’m very thankful for it.’  Idris hopes the success he has achieved in his career will inspire the ‘millions’ of other talented people to follow and fulfil their dreams. He added: ‘You know my history, I’ve been very honest about all the sides of my journey, I didn’t have success very early and I went through some very dark times but the main thing I kept doing was to keep looking for inspiration. 10m iPhones 6 plus sold by Apple in first three days

Apple Inc have reported that the company has recorded more than 10 million sales of the new iPhone 6 plus in the first three days underscoring strong demand for phones with larger displays. The phone which was on a high demand from customers after it went on sale on Friday, September 19, 2014, is now the higher sales recorded than the nine million new iPhones it sold last year in their first weekend on sale. Speaking on the sales, a rep from Apple said ‘The first-weekend iPhone sales number continues to be more about how much Apple can supply than what the demand is in the market.’ Maynard Um, a senior research analyst for Wells Fargo, has predicted that Apple will sell about 58 million iPhones in the holiday quarter.... 

Bruce Jenner agrees to Kris' Divorce

Bruce Jenner has swiftly submitted documents to the court in the divorce proceedings instituted hours earlier by his wife, Kris Jenner whom he separated from last year after 23 years of marriage. Kris had approached the courts yesterday, September 22 asking a judge to dissolve their 23-year old marriage and Bruce has filed his own response, seemingly having been waiting since they started living apart last year. His filed papers urge the judge to agree to the same terms set out by Kris, now a showbiz matriarch, and asking that they have joint physical and legal custody of their youngest daughter, Kylie, who is just 17 years old. Like, Kris, Bruce asked for his own ‘jewellery and other personal effects,’ and ‘earnings and accumulations…from and after the date of separation. According to reports, Bruce doesn’t want to pay spousal support, which is also in line with Kris’ petition, asking the judge to bar the court from awarding spousal support. The couple announced they had split last October, but the court documents state they separated months earlier, with the date showing June 1, 2013. At the time of the announcement, ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star, Kris vowed she and Bruce would remain ‘best of friends.’ She said: ‘We are living separately and we are much happier this way. But we will always have much love and respect for each other. Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends, and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority. ‘We ended a marriage, but that’s not the end of our friendship. I will always love him, but we are no longer a couple in that way.’... 

Gospel singer fires at Maheeda for promoting her music with sex.

Speaking at recent interview published in Vanguard, the ‘Let It Go’ singer,Sandra Ifudu... who said she doesn’t intend to expose her body in public for any reason, tagged Maheeda a bad egg in the gospel industry after she claimed the raunchy singer is promoting her music sexually. ‘You know it is normal for me as a lady to want to wear revealing clothes sometimes. I believe all women feel like that sometimes. But I will not deliberately choose to expose my body to sell my music because I believe my talent and good looks can take me to wherever I want to go, unlike singers like Maheeda using sex to sell their music. Well, I am of the opinion that whatever you preach or talk about, you should at least be able to put it into practice to make it believable and doable.’ Not done, Ifudu went in deeper at the self-styled ‘Naija Bad Girl.’ ‘Even though I am not in any position to judge, I’ll say people like Maheeda are bad news to inspirational or gospel music because you can’t be preaching one thing and doing another thing.’... 

Davido fires at MC Galaxy

A video of Comedian turn musician, Innocent Udeme Ofodot ‘Mc Galaxy’ recently went viral online. In the video the singer and comedian was assaulted by a show promoter in Washington DC after an issue ensued between them at a nightclub on Friday, September 12, 2014. In a reaction to the recent incident, African musician of the year Davido took to Instagram to share a funny picture with caption ‘They already know not to try this shit with HKN!!! Lmao wish we was there for @mcgalaxy01 U know we got u!! Lmao’ Davido and Mc Galaxy have been very good friends for a long time, you’ll recall that Mc Galaxy won the 500,000 naira dance competition that Davido organised to celebrate his 20th birthday in November 2012....
