RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Theme

To achieve sustainable development, political regulations and financial incentives are not enough. A fundamental change is necessary in the way people think and act. The international community has long recognized that education is crucial for bringing about such change. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) allows learners to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future. ESD means including key sustainable issues into teaching and learning; for example, climate change, disaster risk reduction, biodiversity, poverty reduction, and sustainable consumption.
In December 2002, the United Nations’ General Assembly launched the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development running from 2005-2014. The main aim of ESD is to empower citizens to address the challenges of the present and future and to make responsible decisions for a viable world. BUT EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT DOES NOT MEAN PROTECTING OUR PLANET …..

Sustainable Development (SD)

Seeks to meet the needs of the present without comprising those of future generations. Sustainable development is a vision of development that encompasses respect for all life – human and non-human – and natural resources, as well as integrating concerns such as poverty reduction, gender equality, human rights, education for all, health, human security and intercultural dialogue.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

Aims to help people to develop the attitudes, skills, perspectives and knowledge to make informed decisions and act upon them for the benefit of themselves and others, now and in the future. ESD helps the citizens of the world to learn their way to a more sustainable future.

The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) (2005-2014)

For which UNESCO is the lead agency, seeks to integrate the principles, values and practices of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning, in order to address the social, economic, cultural and environmental issues we face in the 21st century.
